Our Pride

Asif Jalil

Mr. Asif Jalil is the Managing Director (Finance) at Delta Air Lines, which is the world’s second-largest airline in terms of passengers carried and the leading U.S. carrier across the Atlantic.

Asif was born in Dhaka in 1967 and lived in East and West Pakistan until 1970, when his family relocated to Brussels, Belgium. In 1971, he moved to the Washington, D.C. when his father joined The World Bank. While mostly growing up in Maryland, he lived for three years in Lusaka, Zambia, where his father was posted as The World Bank’s Resident Representative.

After graduating from Walt Whitman High School in Bethesda, Asif attended Williams College in Massachusetts, where he earned his Bachelors degree in Economics and History in 1989. After his undergraduate degree, Asif worked for two years as a consultant at Booz, Allen and Hamilton in Bethesda. Asif also did a short internship at the Grameen Bank in Dhaka. Asif left Booz, Allen to attend The University of Chicago Graduate School of Business. He studied finance and accounting and received his MBA with Honors in 1994. He was selected into the Beta Gamma Sigma honors society based on his academic achievement. Membership in Beta Gamma Sigma is the highest recognition a business student anywhere in the world can receive in a business program accredited by AACSB International (the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business).

Upon graduation, Asif joined Sabre Holdings, which was at that time a subsidiary of American Airlines in Dallas, Texas, as a financial analyst. After three years, he was promoted to Manager, Financial Planning. In 1999, he became Director of Finance. Later that year, Asif moved to Atlanta, Georgia, to become General Manager (Finance), for Delta Air Lines. Subsequently, he was promoted to the position of Director, Finance in 2003.

Asif is married to Rena Jalil, who is originally from the Philippines. Rena is a Realtor with Re/Max in Atlanta. Rena earned her degree in Economics from Southern Methodist University in Dallas. Asif and Rena are proud parents of two wonderful boys, Shezan and Matthew, and live in beautiful Peachtree City, in the suburbs of Atlanta.
