Dr. Sadiq Ahmed is the South Asia’s Sector Director for Poverty Reduction and Economic Management (PREM) at the World Bank. An economist by profession, he hails from Bangladesh and was educated at Dhaka University, London School of Economics and Boston University. Dr. Ahmed joined the World Bank in 1981.
After stints as Country Economists, he was appointed Chief of the Bank's Resident Mission in Pakistan in 1995 and subsequently became the Country Director for Pakistan and Afghanistan. In 1999, he was appointed South Asia Region's Chief Economist and in 2001 was also asked to concurrently serve as the Sector Director for PREM. Since January 2004, the position of the Chief Economist and PREM Sector Director was split and Dr.Ahmed is now Sector Director for PREM. Dr. Ahmed has written and published extensively in the areas of public finance, poverty analysis, monetary and development economics.
