Dr. Sezan Mahmud, MBBBS, PhD, MPH, a well-known writer, lyricist, and columnist of Bangladeshi origin is also an Assistant Professor of Public Health at the Florida A & M University, Institute of Public Health. Dr. Mahmud received his medical degree from Bangladesh and worked for BIRDEM for three years. He also has received his Master of Public Health (MPH) degree from Harvard University and PhD degree from UAB School of Public Health, USA. With his excellent academic performances in the top most programs he was awarded James N. Snitzler Scholarship Award at the Harvard University, Alabama Power Foundation Outstanding Achievement Award at UAB School of Public Health, IDF (International Diabetes Federation) Fellowship Award at the Joslin Diabetes Center, Harvard Medical School. His research publication has been covered in the international media such as CNN, ABC News, and Yahoo News etc.
Officially known as Saleh Mahmudur Rahman, is more known as Sezan Mahmud because of his outstanding writing career. He has published 15 books in Bengali and he was awarded Bangladesh Shishu Academy “Agrani Bank Shishu Shahittya” award in 1385 Bengali year at the youngest age. One of his critically acclaimed books “Operation Jackpot” (Published in 1991) based on the untold true story of the Naval Commandos in the liberation war of Bangladesh brought significant attention from the corners of intellectuals. He has written many popular songs sang by eminent artists of Bangladesh, including Nelson Mandela (Fakir Alamgir), Kono Ek Sundori Rate (Samina Chowdhury), and Amar Duchokh Diye (Tapan Chowdury). His contribution to children’s literature has been recognized by Bangladesh Text Book Board by including his writing in the sixth grade text book for the last five years along with national poets and writers.
